Area Information

Bushey lies 16 miles northwest of central London on the south-eastern edge of Watford, within the boundaries of the M25 and close to the M1. Despite being close to London and having Watford on the doorstep, Bushey retains the feeling of a small town, with its ancient church, duck pond, period cottages and a golf course at its centre this is also reinforced with events such as the Bushey Festival, quarter marathon, the Horticultural Society's flower and produce show retaining the feel of a rural village.

The area contains a mix of primary schools and linked infants and junior schools. The state secondary schools are Queens' School, Bushey Meads School and The Grange Academy, of which the first two generally do well in comparison with other schools in the county. Bushey is also the site of the famous Purcell School, a school for young musicians well known for turning out many successful musicians. It was formerly the Royal Caledonian School. There are also two private girls' schools, St. Hilda's and St Margaret's in the area.

Bushey has plenty of surrounding countryside to enjoy. Starting behind St James's Church is a four-mile walk through Attenborough's Fields and Merry Hill, the latter owned by the Woodland Trust. Bushey Rose Garden in the centre of town on the site of the former art school, was designed by Thomas Mawson, a leading Edwardian garden designer.
